Emma Donoghue, author of The Paris Express Description:
Boswell Book Company and CelticMKE present a special, ticketed evening with Irish author Emma Donoghue, whose novels include acclaimed titles such as Room, Haven, and The Pull of the Stars. Donoghue appears for a conversation about her new novel, The Paris Express, with Pulitzer finalist Rebecca Makkai.

Tickets for this event cost $35 and each includes admission and a hardcover copy of The Paris Express.

Based on the infamous Montparnasse train station 1895 disaster that went down in history in a series of surreal, extraordinary photographs, The Paris Express is a propulsive novel set on a train packed with a fascinating cast of characters, including members of parliament hurrying to Paris for a vote, a medical student who suspects a girl may be dying, a secretary trying to convince her boss to invest in moving pictures, two of the train’s crew members who hope to build new lives, and a young anarchist with a terrifying plan. Donoghue’s book is an evocative masterpiece that effortlessly captures the politics, glamour, chaos, and speed that marked the end of the 19th century.

Author Alice Winn says: "Clever, ambitious, and richly researched. A slice of 1890s Paris that makes us see that our modern problems aren’t so modern after all! The Paris Express is a smartly structured novel that ratchets up the pace until it's hurtling along as fast as the doomed train itself."

Emma Donoghue is author of sixteen novels, including the award-winning national bestseller Room, the basis for the acclaimed film of the same name for which she also wrote the screenplay. She has also written nine stage plays.
